  • 2. WHAT IS A LEADER? • A person or thing that holds a dominant or superior position within its field, and is able to exercise a high degree of control or influence over others. • Somebody whom people follow. • Somebody who guides or directs others.
  • 3. EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE (EI): • Emotional intelligence (EI) is the ability to monitor one's own and other people's emotions, to discriminate between different emotions and label them appropriately, and to use emotional information to guide thinking and behavior.
  • 4. COMPONENTS OF EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE Self-Awareness Self-Regulation Motivation Empathy Social Skill
  • 5. SELF-AWARENESS • The ability to recognize and understand your moods, emotions, and drives as well as their effect on others. HALLMARKS: Know them-self. Self-confidence. Realistic self-assessment. Self-deprecating sense of humor.
  • 6. SELF-REGULATION • The ability to recognize and understand your moods, emotions, and drives as well as their effect on others. • The ability to control or redirect disruptive impulses and moods. HALLMARKS: Trustworthiness and integrity. Comfort with ambiguity. Openness to change.
  • 7. MOTIVATION • Motivation is a theoretical construct, used to explain behavior. • A passion to work for reasons that go beyond money or status. HALLMARKS: Strong drive to achieve. Optimism, even in the face of failure. Organizational commitment.
  • 8. EMPATHY • Empathy is the capacity to share or recognize emotions experienced by another sentient or fictional being. • The ability to understand the emotional makeup of other people. HALLMARKS: Expertise in building and retaining talents Cross-cultural sensitivity Service to clients and customers reactions.
  • 9. SOCIAL SKILL • Social rules and relations are created, communicated, and changed in verbal and nonverbal ways. The process of learning such skills is called socialization. • An ability to find common ground and build rapport. HALLMARKS: Effectiveness in leading change. Persuasiveness. Expertise in building and leading teams.
  • 10. CONCLUSION • To be a great leader you need to have a high “emotional intelligence”!!!!
