  • 1. The 7 Traits of the Most Resilient People Being resilient is not only a wonderful trait to have, it is almost a requirement to succeed in today’s competitive business world. There will be times when the world seems to be fighting against you, and you are knocked down time and time again. There may even come a time when everything you’ve worked for seems to fall apart, leaving you with nothing but your experience to build off of. If this happens, will you be ready and willing to jump back up and try again, or will you become too depressed and worn down to even consider giving it another go? Are you resilient enough for the business world? After all, the most resilient people are the most successful people, and very few people make it to the top without first falling down, sometimes more than once. That said, resilience is something that can be learned. With time and practice, anyone can teach themselves to keep going, even in the darkest of times. If you are looking to build up your resilience, you must first know the traits of a resilient person. So what makes a resilient person? The seven traits below are found in every resilient person, and by making an effort to pull these traits out of yourself and making them a regular part of your life, you will likely become a stronger, more resilient person who is ready for whatever life has to throw their way. INSIGHTFULNESS 1/3
  • 2. A resilient person is insightful. He or she is able to look at any given situation from the outside and see what went wrong and how to repair the damage. The resilient person doesn’t place blame, but instead takes responsibility for their actions and learns from their mistakes. By looking beyond their emotions and seeing the bigger picture, a resilient person is able to establish what steps should be taken next. INDEPENDENCE Resilient people do not rely on others. They are able to pull themselves up by their boot straps and take matters into their own hands. These people do not wait around for others to tell them what to do, but instead take action of their own accord, whether or not others wish to join them in their efforts. They also do not rely on others for comfort or to bring them out of their misery. Therefore, they are more able to bounce back after a bad break. RESPONSIBILITY Generally speaking, resilient people are responsible for someone or something they care deeply about. This gives them a reason to get back up again and continue working, even when the going gets tough. If you do not have a responsibility in your life that you feel passionately about—such as children, a significant other, or even a pet—finding one is imperative in order to give yourself something to continue moving forward for. DRIVE Driven people tend to be resilient people, and vice versa. The driven person is willing to do whatever it takes in order to reach a goal, even if that means quickly bouncing back from a very difficult time. This trait ties nicely into the responsibility mentioned before, as a person with a responsibility that they feel passionately about is more likely to be driven to reach goals that will help them fulfill that responsibility. CREATIVE THINKING Sometimes life throws us some pretty crazy curve balls. The ability to think outside of the box and work your own way out of difficult situations is a valuable tool that everyone should work to acquire. Creative thinking can mean the difference between staying in a depressing situation due to an inability to find a way out, and becoming a successful entrepreneur because you were able to solve your problems in an unusual way. For this reason, it is crucial for those working in business to take time each day to flex their creative muscles. This could mean painting, dancing, or writing a book. Whatever it is that inspires you to create is what you should do. There’s a saying that says if you spend your week working with your mind, you should spend weekends working with your hands. Additionally, it is a good idea to always be on the lookout for unique ways to solve problems. You never know when an out-of-the-ordinary solution might be the key to your next big break. SENSE OF HUMOR While you should most certainly take your goals—and yourself, of course—seriously, it is also important to have the ability to look at any unfortunate situations with a sense of humor. Breaking down and laughing at a poor situation or terrible mistake is often the first step to accepting the problem and finding ways to solve it. Laughter relieves stress, so if you find yourself in an overly stressful situation that you just can’t seem to find a way out of, allow yourself to 2/3
