Welcome Syro-Malabar Catholic Church to our Parish: We profess our Catholic faith as one holy, catholic and apostolic church. However, our Universal Catholic Church is the union of twenty-two autonomous churches, twenty-one Eastern rite churches and one Latin rite, under one Roman Pontiff, the Pope. We are glad that one of the Eastern Catholic Churches, Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, worshiping with us on every Sunday afternoon at 4PM. This Church is one of the ancient churches, as old as Christianity itself, and called Saint Thomas Christians as they are the descendants of those converted by St. Thomas, the Apostle who evangelized India in the year 52AD. The Syro-Malabar Church in India and abroad is very active, vibrant and growing, faithful to the teachings of the universal Church, very rich in vocations and very traditional in family values. WORD FOR THIRTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME First Reading: Sirach 35:12-14, God is just and does not show favoritism, but hears the prayers of everyone. Anyone who serves God, no matter how lowly his position here on earth, will be heard and answered. Second Reading: 2 Timothy 4:6-8, Paul writes to Timothy that he thinks his mission is near the end, and he is glad his faith is still strong. Paul hopes that all nations will hear the gospel. But, if he is executed as he anticipates, he is sure he will live forever in. Gospel: Luke 18:9-14 Jesus tells a parable about a Pharisee who went to the temple, and offered up a prayer of thanks because he was not a sinner like the tax collector who was also there to pray. The tax collector was far more humble, acknowledging his sins, and asking forgiveness for them. Jesus said the tax collector s prayer would be heard because, Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, while he who humbles himself will be exalted. PARISH FAITH FORMATION PROGRAM Go Forth In Faith ( ) ) Questions? Contact Lisa Quist at (914) CONFIRMATION!
